Details
Only the very best parts were used, a dipole tweeter "GEMINI" developed by Bastanis. The 30cm wideband AlNiCo magnet based driver and the new 38cm long throw bass unit. The styling was a joint venture between ourselves and Mr. Ulrich of www.BBU-Design.de. The wooden enclosures are manufactured by a skilled cabinetmaker. The wood contrast wonderfully with the lacquered areas but has the same texture and tone as the massive wooden horn. The APOLLO's proudly take their place among the very few ultimate speakers by virtue of the handmade perfection and esoteric execution of the concept. The APOLLO's sound simply have no equal. Our objective when developing the APOLLO was nothing less than establishing a new standard. Our knowledge of the superior qualities of some historic loudspeakers (qualities which are little known because marketing had not yet been invented), and experience gained during twenty years of professional work has been channelled into the APOLLO. The conceptual superiority of an open baffle with a wide range drive unit has been translated into the APOLLO without any compromise whatsoever. Where current technical solutions were not satisfactorily enough to solve a problem, we went back to the drawing board and developed new solutions. We are proud to introduce to you, after a long and difficult period of development, the APOLLO. And we can tell you that it will make music more tangible than it has ever been before. Technical specifications 2 units 38cm bass loudspeaker with each it's own amplifier. Open Baffle An open baffle does not suffer from dips in the frequency band, and does not limit transient response. It also enables micro-details to be heard that would normally have been lost. The AlNiCo wideband driver can independently produce a sublime homogenous musical representation. It lies completely within this driver's ability to portray music independently. This wideband unit has been treated in an oil that has been developed in-house and is subsequently heat-treated and exposed to resonance harmonization by means of specifically altered violin varnish. This leads to the unique characteristics of the diaphragm. The high internal damping and the elasticity of our treated diaphragms enable it to a have controlled bending waves transducer behaviour with higher frequencies. Only very light diaphragm segments are left to do the work. Together with the high sensitivity and big diaphragm area for low frequencies, a completely natural and unforced music reproduction is the result. The "GEMINI" - dipole high frequency unit or tweeter is also characterized by a perfectly natural sound with the same radiation pattern as the wideband drivers. The diaphragms of this in-house developed tweeter are also coated with violin lacquer and coupled by means of a single hand-made beeswax coated capacitor by the Jupiter Condensor co. The wideband drivers are connected directly to the amplifer without the ill-effects of a crossover, this enables the amplifiers to have excellent control over the loudspeakers. The APOLLO's are ideally suited to be powered by Single Ended Tube output stages. This is due to the high efficiency and high impedance load they present to the amps. The control, liveliness and dynamics of SET's remain exemplary. Interfacing the speaker with other amplifiers which use different topologies is of course very feasible if the quality of the amplifier is of a sufficient caliber. Bass APOLLO's actively powered subwoofer blends in perfectly with the wideband driver and takes over where the open baffle low frequency starts rolling off. The filter curve of the active amplifier module is crossovered harmoniously to fill in where the open baffle naturally tapers off. Full advantage is had from the fact that the bass-driver is directly coupled to the amplifier. This leads to the best possible control over the woofer. Furthermore the closed baffle of the bass-driver improves precision. Because of the very long throw of the woofer, the large moving coil diameter and the powerful amplifiers that drive this bass-unit. It is capable of delivering extremely dynamic sound. This augments the dynamics of the wideband unit perfectly to create a lightning fast sound. If fed with the right signal these speakers will reproduce realistic live sound levels with absolute authority. APOLLO has taken the production of sound to a new level of quality through the combination of the excellent concepts that have been implemented, the best materials and independent concepts and thinking. All these factors have combined into loudspeakers that will bring you joy and will let you experience music more intensely and more emotionally than you have ever experienced before.
