As hi-fi enthusiasts, we all are on a quest for the holy grail of ultimate sound.
I have had many speakers. From early on, Kef Cadenzas, 104’s, Hi-Fi Answers DIY transmission Line monitors, Kef 107’s, Yamaha NS1000’s, several modern Mission models etc. I have to admit, I have never been 100% satisfied with the sound. The closest I have been was with a vinyl front end, valve amplifier & the NS1000.
Now, having played my Prometheus all weekend, I am convinced I have found the Holy Grail! All of a sudden, everything has come together, which has elevated my enjoyment of recorded music to another level.
I believe listening to music is a psycho-acoustic experience. We have to fool the brain into thinking we are listening to the real thing. But the brain is not easily fooled, & has ways of telling us its not happy with what it hears. We find things harsh & tiring to listen to, especially digital encoded CD’s, the biggest non-musical trick of all. I am convinced Robert Bastani has discovered a way to fool the brain into believing the music playing through his creation is real. It does not come from the speakers….it is just present in the room…everywhere! I could not believe the effect. Everything I listened to was so relaxed, open & fatigue free. I listened mesmerised for hours. Just to make sure, I replaced the Proms with the NS1000’s. A few minutes listeneing, & my brain started to reject the music. Why…I could not understand. The Yamahas have a wonderful midrange, treble & tight bass. They have fine imaging. They are detailed & fast. But they weren’t fooling me. Something was wrong. Indeed, the music still sounded like it was coming out of a box. Return to the Prometheus. The box disappears, & my brain accepts the music again!
I want to thank you, Robert, for giving me such pleasure!
